چکیده

If G is a connected graph, then HA(G) = ∑ u6=v(deg(u) + deg(v))/d(u, v) is the additively Harary index and HM (G) = ∑ u6=v deg(u) deg(v)/d(u, v) the multiplicatively Harary index of G. G is an apex tree if it contains a vertex x such that G − x is a tree and is a k-apex tree if k is the smallest integer for which there exists a k-set X ⊆ V (G) such that G − X is a tree. Upper and lower bounds on HA and HM are determined for apex trees and k-apex trees. The corresponding extremal graphs are also characterized in all the cases except for the minimum k-apex trees, k ≥ 3. In particular, if k ≥ 2 and n ≥ 6, then HA(G) ≤ (k+ 1)(3n− 5n−k−k+ 2)/2 holds for any k-apex tree G, equality holding if and only if G is the join of Kk and K1,n−k−1.

Distance-based Graph Invariants of Trees and the Harary Index

Introduced in 1947, the Wiener index W (T ) = ∑ {u,v}⊆V (T ) d(u, v) is one of the most thoroughly studied chemical indices. The extremal structures (in particular, trees with various constraints) that maximize or minimize the Wiener index have been extensively investigated. The Harary index H(T ) = ∑ {u,v}⊆V (T ) 1 d(u,v) , introduced in 1993, can be considered as the “reciprocal analogue” of ...

The challenge of tree height in Eucalyptus regnans: when xylem tapering overcomes hydraulic resistance.

*Recent research suggests that increasing conduit tapering progressively reduces hydraulic constraints caused by tree height. Here, we tested this hypothesis using the tallest hardwood species, Eucalyptus regnans. *Vertical profiles of conduit dimensions and vessel density were measured for three mature trees of height 47, 51 and 63 m. *Mean hydraulic diameter (Dh) increased rapidly from the tr...

Sanio's laws revisited. Size-dependent changes in the xylem architecture of trees.

Early observations led Sanio [Wissen. Bot., 8, (1872) 401] to state that xylem conduit diameters and lengths in a coniferous tree increase from the apex down to a height below which they begin to decrease towards the tree base. Sanio's law of vertical tapering has been repeatedly tested with contradictory results and the debate over the scaling of conduit diameters with distance from the apex h...

Extermal trees with respect to some versions of Zagreb indices via majorization

The aim of this paper is using the majorization technique to identify the classes of trees with extermal (minimal or maximal) value of some topological indices, among all trees of order n ≥ 12

Chemical Trees with Extreme Values of Zagreb Indices and Coindices

We give sharp upper bounds on the Zagreb indices and lower bounds on the Zagreb coindices of chemical trees and characterize the case of equality for each of these topological invariants.
